Integration questions
Can QuickBooks connect to South Africa's proposed Digital VAT Model?
What a QuickBooks user can map today and why a final SARS connector cannot yet be promised.

Direct answer
A QuickBooks-based business can prepare its invoice, customer, tax and credit-note data for structured exchange, but a specific approved QuickBooks-to-SARS connection should not be assumed. SARS's Digital VAT Model is still being designed. The practical question is whether the accounting workflow can export reliable transaction data and receive delivery or rejection status from a future provider.

What matters in practice
- Check the exact QuickBooks product, edition and available export or API route.
- Keep invoice IDs, VAT rates and credit-note links consistent.
- Do not label a prototype as a SARS-certified connector.
Map the accounting workflow first
Identify where sales invoices are created, where VAT codes are maintained and how corrections are posted. A spreadsheet export may be enough for a data audit, but it is not a durable high-volume integration. The available technical route depends on the QuickBooks product and account configuration.
The status loop matters
A future provider may return accepted, rejected or pending states. If accounting staff cannot see those states beside the source invoice, they may resend documents or miss corrections. Design the status and audit trail before choosing a connector.
- Select ten real invoice patterns, including discounts and credits.
- Check customer VAT identifiers and address quality.
- List which fields cannot currently be extracted without manual work.
What is not yet established
SARS has not published final integration obligations for every accounting product. Treat provider fit, mapping and accreditation as questions to verify against later official material.
QuickBooks fit check
- Confirm the product and edition in use.
- Export a representative invoice and credit note.
- Map missing tax fields and owner of each correction.
Questions teams ask
Is QuickBooks already certified for the future SARS model?
Do not assume certification. Ask the vendor for evidence tied to a published SARS scheme and verify the scheme itself.
Will a PDF export be enough?
A PDF is not the structured invoice format described in the SARS proposal. It can help a human review a transaction but should not be the only integration source.
